Starting a motorcycle club will not only earn you a strong group of friends, but it will also add to your identity and elevate the quality of your life overall.
That said, your motorcycle club needs proper representation in order for members to feel involved. As a result, non-members are encouraged to join you.
A great way to ‘advertise’ your club would be to display the club’s logo somewhere that people can easily spot and become curious about it, such as your motorcycle’s rim.
Once you have your group of avid motorcyclists, the next step would be to put all your heads together and decide on a name and logo for your motorcycle club.
A number of things can influence the name and logo, such as your location, your profession, the brand or type of bike you all ride, etc. Keeping these factors in mind, you should be able to come up with a name that is appropriate for your club’s specific theme.
As for the emblem, there are a number of logo makers available on the internet which can build a logo for you within seconds. All you need is to provide the name of your club.
Now that you have your name and logo, you can proceed to display it on your motorcycle for anyone on the streets to see. Before that, though, let us look at the preparation and precautions taken before painting motorcycle rims.
Preparing a surface like a rim to be painted is extremely important for the paint job to be a successful one.
You want to wipe your rim down with a damp rag and let that dry. Next, spray on your preferred wheel cleaner, let it work its magic for a few minutes, and then rinse off with a hose. Make sure the wheel cleaner does not have time to dry on the rim, as it can be very difficult to remove.
Use a rag (or sponge) and a bit of dish soap (mixed with water) to wipe down the rim and get rid of grease and oil residue.
Last but not least, use extra-fine grain sandpaper to carefully sand the rim. Make sure you don’t remove any of the existing paint from the rim. To continue painting, give the rim another washing with some soapy water and let it dry.
With your rim all prepped and ready, you can get started with painting your motorcycle club’s logo onto it.
To paint your logo onto the rim, you will first need to print out the logo on a piece of paper. This printed logo has to be the size that you would want to appear on the rim itself after it has been painted.
Tape down the printed paper on a sheet of chipboard or cardboard, and use moderate pressure to make an outline of the logo onto the chipboard or cardboard using a pen.
Take off the paper and use a precision knife to cut out the logo from the chipboard or cardboard. Make sure that you are not cutting out any interior parts of the logo design.
Now that your stencil is ready, use masking tape to cover any parts of the wheel that you do not want the paint to get on, such as the tire. Secure your stencil over the rim using tape. Before you start spraying, give your spray paint bottle a good shake.
From a distance of about a foot from the rim, spray on your wheel paint lightly for an initial layer. If you are using different colors, you might want to think of the sequence to spray them in beforehand.
Make sure the nozzle is parallel to the stencil so that you are not holding the paint bottle at an angle. This will help you get clean edges. After the first light layer of paint dries, you can go in heavier with the second layer. Repeat the painting process a couple more times, letting each layer dry before you paint on the next one.
Once the last layer of paint has dried, spray the clear wheel gloss generously over the stencil. After a couple of minutes, take off your stencil very carefully, and you should now have your wheel’s rim proudly representing your sports motorcycle club.
